What to Wear: To a Wedding

Holidays/Events

I recently covered what to wear to a bridal or baby shower, but with wedding season right around the corner (and if you’re going to a bridal shower, you’re probably going to the wedding), you’ll need to explore some options.  I have seen some women sport a dressy suit to a wedding — maybe with a sparkly tank and fabulous shoes and jewelry, but I’m going to assume we’re all dress women here.  If you’d like some suit options, contact me and we can explore your dilemma in Q&A.

For LONG DRESSES, what I really love about all these Nicole Miller metal gowns is that you can select the same material dress in the neckline you want.  As a side note, this would be a cute, yet different take on “picking your own bridesmaid dress” that you might be so lucky to encounter when standing up to a wedding.  The bonus with these is they do not look like bridesmaid dresses, so you could dress them up more with statement jewelry and exquisite shoes to wear as a guest.  My favorite is the cap sleeve ruffle neck one, but you can also get strapless, square neck, v-neck, and off-the-shoulder.

This silk screen printed dress has a dressy, yet playful and different look.  I saw a girl recently wear something along these lines to a wedding.  It’s not your typical glitter and glitz, or sleek LBD, but something about it was refreshing, classy, and surprisingly, formal.

If you really want to turn heads at a wedding this year,  look like a celebrity with the Erin Fetherston Paloma Gown.  This gown is both elegant and sexy, and only meant for the daring with its plunging back and sides.  You will look like a million bucks though, so if you’re ex is going to be at the same wedding this year, this is the dress for you.  ;)

For SHORT DRESSES, here’s some unconventional picks.  This cocktail dress has the most unique neckline I’ve ever seen.  Plus I like that it’s in a cremey white color.  Kind of daring since you’re not supposed to wear white taboo.  I say, live dangerously.  Unless the bride is really avant garde, you aren’t going to look like twins.  Another unique look is this trapeze sequin dress.  Most women wouldn’t wear this one, and you could certainly add your own style as they do in the photo.

As I’ve written before, Evil Kitty’s mantra is for the woman who wants to look different.  For an LBD with a little something extra, try this strapless 3/4 length cocktail dress with signature Evil Kitty details.  Speaking of LBD, both of these dresses by Sretsis are gorgeous.  It’s hard to choose between the Daisy one with sheer neckline and v-back or the Peony Blossom strapless one

If you like to make a splash with color, I really like this silk pink-red-orange combo color dress for a less formal or even an afternoon wedding.  It’s so refreshing and bright looking.  This teal Laila Azhar V-Strap Tulip Dress has lots of draping, which is ideal to hide flaws (so you can eat dinner and strut your stuff on the dance floor without feeling self-conscious).  For an entirely lace dress, this is pretty cute.  Usually would make me think of a Poison video, but I like the lavender lining underneath.   This powder blue organza dress by Evil Kitty is a beautiful choice too.  A really different color for a wedding, plus I love how the hem drapes lower in the back.

Now all you have to do is pick one.
