Style Trends

Some of you have asked me about where you can pick up the latest spring trends for less.  I get it…even though turquoise has been named color of the year (click here to read this article and get a refresher on other hot colors this season), perhaps you’re not quite sure turquoise is the color for you.  Or perhaps you’ve never considered wearing polka-dots, or felt you always looked washed out in neutrals (if you have no idea what trends are in for spring, click here to get up to speed).  So investing less money to purchase a trend you’re not sure about makes sense.  I do this myself from time to time.  Then if I find I like what I purchased, I might spend more on say another turquoise item because I know it works for me.  Or at the very least, I feel pretty good that I a) either found something trendy for less or b) didn’t spend that much on something that didn’t work for me.

Have you ever made a memorable inexpensive purchase?  If so, share your story!  If not, start working on seeking out your own fab find for less with my favorite picks under $100:

I talked recently about floral prints and couldn’t resist this mixed-media floral necklace.   Love that it’s black, white, and silver so it can go with a variety of outfits, plus it’s only $49.  Speaking of mixed-media, I also love the asymmetrical top and stripe accents on this strapless paisley floral dress, which you can pick up for under $55.  If you didn’t miss my post on what sunglasses are in this season, you’d know that retro sunglasses are all the rage right now…from the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s…various frames are coming back in style.  None better known than the Wayfarer by RayBan, which are the frames with the little metal diamond shape in the front corners.  Furthermore, printed frames are in as well.  Combine both looks for only $16 with this hybrid pair from Metropark.

Who cannot say enough about neutrals?  They are everywhere.  Practically every store or boutique is carrying neutrals this season.  Some websites even have a special section where neutral shades are grouped together.  Thus if you had to  invest in just one trend this season, neutrals would be it.  I personally love this adorable ruffle bolero jacket.  So cute and versatile to wear over a variety of outfits.  Like you could wear this over a plain tank with black trouser pants to work (super cute to wear into the evening without having to change too!), or wear it over a spring or summer dress to create an entirely different look.  This could even be worn over a turtleneck or thin, fitted long sleeve tee if it’s a little chillier outside.  Quite a deal at $68 for a variety of looks.  And if you’re looking to get a jumpstart on sandals for summer, check out these natural colored suede sandals by Seychelles for $92.

So I mentioned turquoise above…how about this teal vintage inspired skirt for $56, or if you really feel turquoise is NOT your color at all, you can wear the hottest color this year on your arm by picking up this roomy turquoise tote for $74.  Turquoise isn’t the only color though this spring…  Coral and a lighter, peony red are huge too.  You can incorporate both the color and the floral look with this sweet beaded coral flower bracelet for $24 or pick up this functional red clutch for spring at $36.

If you like to shop by style vs. color, one of my style picks this spring was polka-dots, and not just plain ‘ol black and white…I’m seeing them mixed with colors.  Pick up this casual navy strapless dress for $74 (on sale) at Art Effect.  Another style is the whole romantic, feminine look which you can get with this whispy, drapey top by Testament for $94.
