Q: Do you think any of the fall shoe trends (clogs, over-the-knee boots) are work appropriate?
A: Ooohh, that’s a good question. Well, I always caution that it depends on the type of industry you work in. If you’re a lawyer, definitely not. If you work in a creative field, and/or work in a more casual environment, like if you’re in marketing or maybe work fora photographer; then these types of shoes and boots could most likely be worn to work. I could see these over-the-knee ones with a professional-looking skirt or dress. Most clogs are pretty casual looking in nature, but you could wear something like these wooden heeled mary-janes instead.
When in doubt with any trend, whether it’s shoes, clothes, or accessories; take a cue from those around you. If everyone around you wears basic black or suits, it’s not inappropriate to add your own personal style by wearing a pop of color or some chunky jewelry. However, it has to be within limits. There’s a difference between wearing a multi-layered necklace like the one in this article vs. a ring from this one.

I can see the clogs where I used to work (at Mattel). But there’s something about the new above the knee boots that are just too street-walker for me. I think it’s good to be fashionable at work, but you need to look professional too.

Thanks for stopping by, Heather! Agreed, it all depends on where you work, and what’s acceptable as professional. Certainly none of the styles would work in an ultra-conservative work environment.

I always think it’s a challenge to incorporate trends into your work outfit. For this fall/winter it shouldn’t be too much of a problem to work a pair of clogs into your outfit. They come in all shapes, from casual to chic.
