Let’s face it — showing off your back is the new (and less gratuitous) decolletage. It’s sexy without looking vulgar, and doesn’t look inappropriate as long as it’s done tastefully (in other words, you might want to skip the leather hot pants this time around). Opting for a sheer or lace-back top as opposed to something backless is flirty without looking too daring for a casual look. I love how the lace back of this Blue Life swing top adds a dash of lingerie-inspired girliness to an otherwise basic top, while the sheer panel of this David Lerner tank, paired with the draped detail, is both elegant and alluring. Of course, the sheer back look does create that tricky bra strap problem (to show or not to show?), so if you’re not a fan of going “commando,” you may want to invest in a backless bra (yes, they exist!), or go against everything you were ever taught by taking the opportunity to show your undergarments on purpose with a funky or bright-colored bralette!
